Steve Grosvenor
I started playing guitar at about nineteen (late starter), and played in bands off and on for about twenty years. Blues,
rock,
pop, reggae, original, covers, social clubs, rhythm, lead,
bass, an eclectic mix, with a bit of writing and recording
here and there. I
drifted off the band scene after about 1993, as I couldn't
do "loud" anymore due to a hearing problem (tinitus). In
1997 I began to learn piano (late starter, again), and
spent five years studying (music theory, grade exams etc),
but I was really missing live music, and was trying to
find a way to get back into playing again that did not
involve "loud". I
happened to see an advert for an open-mic session (hadn't
got a clue what that was, although I would soon find
out!), at Rowheath Pavilion, so I popped in for a quick
look one night......saw a promising young guitar player
there, some bloke called Nick Evans (who wasn't too bad),
and he mentioned The Lighthouse on his website, "every
Thursday, Coombes Road, Halesowen". My
first visit to The Lighthouse was quite memorable, Dennis
"The Accordion" did a feature spot having consumed about
fifteen pints of Enville, (luckily the Fire Brigade
managed to free him from his instrument, eventually). I
did my first "spot" at The Grange in 2004, (where we were
for a while), and it was for me almost a "near death"
experience , (first time singing - ever), which I was so
happy to survive that I have been a regular ever since.
