Another superb evening (29/11/07).
Especially the all included guitar spot - even if some of me did keep getting
the chords wrong

Sue and Nick would like to send a
big thank you to Brian Clee (Cookley), Frank Jolley (Rushwick), Ian Munro

Just to remind you all that you
can write in on any club related subject, and your comments will be posted here
(unless they are likely to cause offence). In order to encourage some feedback,
club feature nights and club related events from other venues will remain on the
Diary page, each with an easy link to our web form. The evanStevens Autumn tour will
be excluded- (we edit the website so we can do that). Special nights that have occurred since Chris Aronsten's
visit
are now included on the diary page, and I will try to accompany any comments
with related photos or video.

Those of you who have been
following the Lighthouse Notice Board online will probably agree that it was not
working the way we would wish it to. The un-restricted nature of posts to the
YABB forum meant that the volume of junk far outweighed the legitimate posts
that people really want to read, and it was a burdensome task to delete the
rubbish and cancel memberships of the idiots and criminals who posted it.
YABB has now bowed out, but the
Notice Board facility will continue using web-form submissions (link above). These will be examined prior to posting on the site. We will decide fairly on
suitability of content and make every effort to post messages as promptly as possible.
Meanwhile, please read below the
legitimate posts that were made while the YABB forum was operating:

What
a fantastic night!
I was really looking forward to the return of Chris Aronsten to The Club and was
not disappointed.
I'm sure we all agree that he went down a storm, and he seemed to be enjoying it
as much as we all were!
It was a real privilege to see such a great musician, and I really enjoyed his
stories as well.
Highlights for me were his version of Subterranean Homesick Blues (a tricky song
that I've never heard anyone else tackle before, but he pulled off a great
version with some brilliant guitar playing), the Skiddaw song, and the Greek
song towards the end of the night.
I found that I remebered many of his songs from last year, and that tells me
what a great songwriter he is (talented git!)
By the way, I thought that our own musicians were all on great form too, with
great performances all round.
Sue and Pat, as usual, did a brilliant job, what a great night.

Another
site update! Just found another wodge of Phil's pictures which I originally
missed uploading as they hid themselves in that wonderful old MS FrontPage 2000
program...... Alcester Fest must have been the last sunny day we had before the
deluge (even though we were showered on then as I recall....) You may have been
ready for the storm, Blondie - others weren't!

What
a great day!......it even managed to stop raining for us which was a bonus.
The Nursery session just seemed to fly by, we could have done with another hour
I reckon, but Sue did a great job (as usual) in getting us organised.
Loved the session at The Nelson, a really nice setting, great music with
friends, you couldn't ask for more really.
A really memorable day, we should do it more often "Lighthouse on
Tour!"

I
thoroughly enjoyed the Lighthouse excursion to the Alcester & Arden Folk
Festival yesterday, and I'm sure I speak for most. Highlights for me were the
contributions of Tommy Ellis (both in disguise at our session and later in the
back garden of the Lord Nelson), and at the same location, Phil and Monica
leading a communal rendition of The Fields of Athenry, plus Blondie's Dougie
song "Ready for the Storm".
I took my camera along but never got round to using it, but I know several
people were busy snapping away. Any good shots please email small files to me or
use yousendit.com or similar if you have several, and I'll add a feature on the
website.
Due to my purchase of a certain shiny new object yesterday, my camera upgrade is
on the back-burner.... (my current camera doesn't perform well in low light), so
future contributions of pictures would be most welcome.
See you all Thursday!

Just a few words
to thank everyone who turned up from the Lighthouse Folk Club on Saturday 16th
June.
The room was filled by our music and to quote Steve (Blondie) the whole day felt
like the Lighthouse on tour.
I have been to many festivals and cannot recall a festival folk club being so
full of members from one club.
It was a joy to see you all after our two weeks holiday.
Love you all!!
See you Thursday

Thursday
17th @ The Lighthouse Folk Club - Another great night!
This was our fourth week at the new venue and I think we can safely say without
a doubt it now feels like home.
The Lighthouse Folk Club has been made really welcome by the committee of the
Conservative Club, they have unreservedly opened there arms to us and for that
we are truly grateful.
The Conservative Club, has two wonderful Stewards; Marie & Steve. Both are
warm and friendly and I can tell you that Steve certainly knows how to keep the
beer.
We had a quieter night this week, forty three folks turned up and we had
thirteen performers.
Our club is blessed with some wonderful artists and a loyal following who turn
up week after week come rain or shine.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who supports the club
and a special thank you to the following:-
Nick Evans - Webmaster
Steve Grosvenor - Lighting Technician
Everyone who has ever contributed a prize to the raffle
The Rowley Regis Conservative Club Committee - For having faith in us
Mel - For finding us a new venue
Everyone who helps tidy up at the end of the night.
Steve & Marie - Stewards & a lovely couple
See you all next week

Firstly,
I would like to say a big thank you to Nick Evans for creating the web site and
setting up this forum facility. I am sure we are going to find it very useful.
The words FOLK music actually means music of popular origin or style and that is
exactly what we strive to encourage at the Lighthouse Folk Club. We make NO
distinction between traditional and contemporary, all genres are welcome.
So whether you have a song to sing, a story to tell, a poem to recite or
just want to listen and enjoy a great night out, why not come along and enjoy
the fun.
